Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a special day in a small town.

Small towns are good and appropriate places to remember why Memorial Day, or “Decoration Day”, was first established. The Lake Vermilion area towns each have their own events in remembrance of the men and women who died in our nation’s service. (The photo is from the Cook, MN Memorial Day parade.)

The continuing fire ban.

The Department of Natural Resources issued a news release today announcing the lifting of the fire ban in several northern Minnesota counties.

St. Louis County and the Lake Vermilion area was not one of the included areas. Many portions of the northern most portion of the state have received only about 1/3 inch of rain in the last couple of days. So no open burning over the holiday weekend.

Relax and enjoy the lake this Memorial Day weekend!
