A View From The Bottom.

In spite of the recent economic downturn, the lingering winter weather conditions, and the high cost of gasoline… the local fish population retains a strong and positive attitude.

The Timberjay has the details.

Link Here.

The ol’ desktop has accumulated a small stack of items with questionable value. It’s time for a little pre-holiday cleaning.

Here’s an article on what could be a very controversial change in Minnesota’s daily walleye limit. The New York Times has a couple of interesting reads related to the housing market… take a look at “Lowball Offers on the Rise” and “Home Sweet Investment”. Recreational property lease holders in our area may see substantial increases in their property taxes. Use the following link to satisfy your curiosity about industrial strength boat-lifts. And, finally, while you’re waiting for that holiday ham to cook to perfection… try this little game to work up a virtual appetite.

Deer mapDeer.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has a tall order in monitoring and managing the state’s Whitetail Deer population.

I think most would agree there is a very healthy deer herd. In fact, the herd is healthy to the point of being unhealthy. Some areas of the state apparently have 40+ deer per square mile (click on the map).

Deer sightings on and near Lake Vermilion are commonplace with numerous wolf-related deer kills scattered along the lakeshore.

This article on the MinnPost.com website relates some of the issues and considerations in maintaining an appropriate balance in the world of the Whitetail.

Hazard buoyWinter’s Grip.

It’s only March 11th so it would be optimistic to think that the vise grip of winter would show any signs of release.

However, as all devout Upper Midwesterners know… that first 45+ degree day makes you want to break out the picnic basket and tune in the ball game.

The real estate business could use a little thaw, also.

There’s an imbalance in some markets that will put a smile on a buyer’s face. The Lake Vermilion market has some symptoms of this challenged market as well. We have a larger than normal inventory plus a fair number of motivated sellers who are eager to show off their cabins and lake lots.

So… make some plans to visit the lake. The market is fine.
