Deer.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has a tall order in monitoring and managing the state's Whitetail Deer population.
I think most would agree there is a very healthy deer herd. In fact, the herd is healthy to the point of being unhealthy. Some areas of the state apparently have 40+ deer per square mile (click on the map).
Deer sightings on and near Lake Vermilion are commonplace with numerous wolf-related deer kills scattered along the lakeshore.
