Rain!Ahhh..

Nature’s Mother has answered the call.

Northeastern Minnesota was the recipient of a generous dose of rain over the last 24 hours. It has been reported (see complete rainfall image) that anywhere from 2 to 8 inches of water was deposited on our extremely dry area.

What a relief!

There was an increasing number of hints that our situation could have developed into numerous or widespread fire events. (A small fire off the west end of Lake Vermilion was doused by DNR water bombers on Sunday afternoon.)

The rainfall was significant enough that the DNR has eased up on the area fire restrictions.

Update: Here’s a very cool (and large) photo of the DNR water bomber skimming Lake Vermilion to reload for another water drop.
