Just a Reminder.
Many who live or visit Lake Vermilion and other area lakes this time of year will expect the reminder. We have been hearing it for several weeks now. The perennial “Beware of Thin Ice” is a message synonymous with early winter. That warning, of course, is not exclusive to NE Minnesota but common anywhere open water can convert to ice.
I appreciate the reminders. The Minnesota DNR’s “Ice Safety” web page is a good resource for anyone venturing onto the ice.
A quick search for news about “thin ice” will reveal stories with reminders of why ice safety is important. Consider the recent news articles from Lacombe, Alberta, Canada and Inverness, Scotland.
Enjoy the lake this winter and be careful.
