We have an honest January thaw in progress.

The -40 photo on a previous post shown below could now be reposted with the – as a +.

It will be interesting to see how much the above freezing temperatures will settle the snow pack. This is of interest because it has become a real chore to wade through the existing snow cover. If the melt and refreeze is sufficient enough to allow support for the weight of an average human being then the off-trail foot travel could go from impossible to idyllic.

That would be great for people and wolves.

But not so good for whitetail deer.

A return to normal temperatures will soon tell the story.
