2005 iceSolid State.

We’re slowly but steadily icing in.

Lake Vermilion has been on the slow track to freeze up this year but there is progress. My short venture onto the lake’s edge revealed some very clear ice with views of the lake bottom. It became obvious that I was not on a safe surface. It is advisable to be extremely cautious before traveling on any area lake at this time.

Ice formation and the countless surfaces, shapes, and textures that are produced is always a wonder. I am thankful that the life sustaining substance of our world, water, has a significant and unique property…

It is less dense in its’ solid state. If it wasn’t… our lakes would freeze from the bottom up.

That could be a problem.

Please wait for colder weather and stronger ice before you step onto your lake.
