Spruce. Bud. Worm.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has issued a news release concerning the presence on Spruce Budworm in Northern St. Louis County.
If you have visited the Lake Vermilion area recently you probably have noticed that some conifer trees are showing signs of distress. There are some areas in which significant numbers of spruce and balsam trees have died do to an excessive population of these native insects. The presence of these bugs is natural and, unfortunately, our part of the world is susceptible to these infestations.
The life cycle of these creatures is explained in detail by the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
