Late August rainfallA Dry Spell.

We could use some rain.

The Lake Vermilion area is parched and, as the image shows, the weather this past week has only extended the problem with a string of sunny days.

According to the Minnesota Climatology Office the Lake Vermilion area has seen about 6 inches of rain this year. That puts us about 6 inches less than the normal rainfall to this date. This allows us to currently claim Severe Drought status.

Also, the DNR tells us the water level in Lake Vermilion is trending down. The last lake level reading shows we are currently below the average lake level (1357.1 feet versus the average of 1357.39 feet) but still about a foot higher than the lowest level ever recorded (1356.07 feet in November 1976).

Let it rain.
