Honey, I Drained The Lake.
Lake Vermilion is a place that’s easy to love.
But what if Lake Vermilion were to suddenly disappear? Sure, it’s not likely but consider the story of Lake Peigneur.
Lake Peigneur is a lake that, literally, disappeared.
The story is incredible and it begins with these words, “It is difficult to determine exactly what happened that day, as all of the evidence was destroyed or washed away in the ensuing maelstrom.”
(I always liked the word “maelstrom”.)
Update. Here’s a related story.
It has happended in Minnesota with the Milford mine in 1924.
