Lake Ice Conditions.
The quality of the ice surface on Lake Vermilion so far this year has been less than ideal.
This trail groomer incident on the East Two River is a testimony to the current situation. As noted in the story, our early heavy snow cover has created poor conditions for making a solid ice pack. Local word says there is significant water and slush above the ice layer in may areas of the lake. There has been considerable snowmobile travel across the lake but be aware that heavy snow, slush, and water can create a hazardous combination.
Common sense and caution should be a part of your lake travel plans!
