Northern Wild Chicken.
I was gazing out of our kitchen window the other day agonizing over what I could post on the ol’ website. At my darkest moment, when all seemed hopeless, this Grouse strutted through my viewscape.
I sensed instant post fodder.
First off, it should be noted that Minnesota is the nation’s top Ruffed Grouse (or “Partridge” if you’re on a first name basis) state with the bird regarded as the state’s number one game bird.
We have the climate and the habitat to make the Grouse feel right at home.
Springtime is when you are most likely to hear the drum of a male Ruffed Grouse. If you love the Ruffed Grouse you could join the Ruffed Grouse Society. The Society has lots of Grouse facts. The MN DNR has also completed a recent and exhaustive survey of the bird.
The not-so-wily Ruffed Grouse is a significant resident in the Lake Vermilion area woodlands.
Listen for one in a woods near you. Or look out your kitchen window.
