Lake Vermilion lake ice April 2008The Melt.

The lake is starting to show signs of a thaw.

Finally.

Our cold winter and late snows have put the process behind the typical schedule. Sun lit days and above freezing nights will help to grow the amount of ice free shoreline. Annual ice-out goals are April 30th (the average ice-out date) and the Fishing Opener (this year it’s May 10th).

Real estate activity should also realize a thaw. This Minnesota Public Radio article sums up the current situation and offers an opinion for potential lake property buyers… “So for the moment, if there’s any price weakness, it’s probably going to be the last great buying opportunity on lakeshore real estate.”

Thawing… it’s not just for lake ice anymore.
