The Duluth News Tribune has an annual request to all area fisherman to send in reports of their “nice fish”.

The Tribune simply says, “We’d love to hear about your nice fish!”. The responses tallied this past weekend reveal a lopsided number of impressive catches from one lake in particular. “Which lake is that?”, you might ask. Well… not surprisingly, it’s Lake Vermilion!

Of the seven fish species reported, Lake Vermilion had reports in 6 of the 7 fish types (Walleye, Northern, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Muskie but no Lake Trout). Also, the number of total “nice fish” reported from Lake Vermilion was 26. That’s a bit better than the next best total from Saganaga Lake which had 7 total “nice fish”.

Is there a conclusion to be drawn from this?

Well, maybe this… the quality of the Lake Vermilion fishery is only exceeded by the number of Lake Vermilion fisherman who cannot contain their need to tell their Lake Vermilion fish stories!

After all… retelling a fish story is nearly as good as living a fish story.
